Thanks for all the suggestions friends! Keep them coming! I'll post when I pick something, and maybe we can all discuss when we are finished :-)

Summer Reading

Friends, I have decided to add a list to the right of my posts, with all the wonderful things I am reading - and some books that I just can't get out of my head.

I love to read. Always have. And I'm always looking for something good to pick up. Send me some suggestions! As I finish, I'll add my review to the right.

I just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - fantastic! At first I didn't think I could make it past the title, since it's a bit bulky. But the first few pages had me hooked. This book was so good, I couldn't get started at work this morning until I'd finished it (around 10:00am, I might add)!

Human Again?

This weekend, I felt... HUMAN! I was actually hungry for real food. So I gave real food a try. Saturday I had some chicken salad. It was not as tasty as the chicken salad on Wednesday, but ok. And most importantly, the baby didn't hate it!

That evening, dismayed by the prospect of yet another grilled cheese or some sort of potato dish, I attempted a hamburger. Yes, I know. A hamburger is kind of a big jump for someone who hasn't had any sort of protein in weeks. But it just sounded so good. AND IT WAS. And the baby didn't hate me too much for it.

Hubby, Girly and I went to a BBQ pool party at our friends' house. A few other couples and several other dogs were there. Hubby tortured Girly by getting her in the pool a few times. By all accounts, she should be a water dog. Her breed is meant to get in the water! And, it so happens, Girly is a fine swimmer. However, she is absolutely terrified of water! She'll take baths without too much fuss. But try to get her in a stream or pool, and you'll have the scratch marks to show for it! The other dogs, all tiny, had no such trauma. They were in and out of the water all afternoon. But my Girly spent the whole time hiding between my legs, sitting on my lap (a mere 50 lbs), or fleeing her daddy's clutches. Wimp!

As far as I am concerned though, I looked fantastic in my new (one piece) bathing suit. And I had another hamburger - this time with ketchup! - that tasted just fine. It was the ice cream for dessert that did me in. Can you believe it? I was able to eat ice cream!!

ARRGH!

I am so mad. Well, I've calmed down a little, since it happened yesterday... but still.

My brother-in-law announced on facebook that he was going to be an uncle. Hubby and I had asked him to PLEASE not put anything up on FB until we did. We're still telling important people, and don't want them finding out through someone being stupid on a social networking site!

Plus. IT'S OUR NEWS TO TELL! Not his.

Hubby tried to smooth it over with me, "He's just had such a bad run of it, and has so little to get excited about. C'mon, it's not that big a deal."

Well, it is a big deal. We had decided to tell the important people first (ahem, all of Hubby's extended family when we see them NEXT week), and then broadcast it to the world through FB and whatever.

Plan. Ruined. Hubby had to call all of his aunts and uncles last night to let them know personally.

So here's my question: Why can't people wait to put stuff in public places until they know that they have the all clear? I mean, if our news were FB fodder, don't people think that WE would have had it up there??

Score one for me!

Me: Baby, I am going to eat a chicken salad sandwich, whether you like it or not.
Baby: But MOOOOM!
Me: No buts. It's tasty
Baby: I said no meat!
Me: Too bad. I want it and will deal with you later.
Baby: Hmm, this chicken salad stuff ain't so bad.
Me: Isn't. Isn't so bad. See? There, I told you.
Baby: Hmph. You may have won this time, but no promises that I'll continue to like this chicken salad stuff. Just you wait.
Me: What, you planning revenge?
Baby: Stay tuned.

Baby: 8,344,965

Me: 0

This kiddo is kicking my butt. I thought it was bad enough that I had to cut out all meat products to make him happy. Apparently pizza and poptarts are out now too.

I was feeling so terrible this morning, I had to stay home! I was up, showered, and packing my snacks and lunch when I just couldn't take it anymore. I had to go back to bed. And as much as I LOVE BED, I was wholly planning on going to work today. I have to save as much leave as possible!

C'mon Baby, help a mommy out!

Oh Happy Day!

It's a Monday. Which means I'm back at work. But I'm in a good mood (so far)! Why?
  1. I get to wear pants! My dear friend sent me some maternity pants over the weekend. Many of the pants are definitely meant for mommies with REAL tummies, not just bloat. I will save those for later. But a couple pairs fit just right, right now! I have never been so excited to wear pants in my life. Thank you elastic waist bands!
  2. I'm sporting my new really long necklace. My friend gave it to me for my birthday and I love it. I've never had a really long necklace before. It took me a few outfit attempts to figure how to rock it, but I am feeling very confident with it on today!
  3. I made THE BEST mashed potatoes last night. And I brought the leftovers for lunch today!
  4. IT IS SUNNY!!!!!!!!! After all the rain, it feels fantastic to see the sun shining away.
  5. I'm two thirds of the way through the first trimester. Fingers crossed, but I'm hoping to enjoy some real food (ie: not carbs) in a few more weeks!
  6. I got to watch some girly movies this weekend, and I didn't think they were terrible! And I only got a little weepy (thank you hormones).

I hope everyone else is having a wonderful Monday too!

Inspiration!

I saw this in a magazine (This Old House? It was my friends) and loved it!
What a cute way to decorate a baby's room! The walls in Baby's room are already close to this color. And I'm sure my talented mother could help me with a tree or something similar. I just want something cheerful!

Luncheon

I used to not like the cafeteria next door. It smelled kind of funny and was decorated in 1980's primary color style.

Then they got a new company to do the food. But I still only went on occasion for chicken fingers and french fries (can't mess that up, right)?

Then I got pregnant. And hungry. And lost my appetite. While still being hungry. Constantly.
The cafeteria is now my favorite place to eat. I go home at night, and try to think of what to eat for dinner, and I wish I could go to the cafeteria! Where else can you get a styrofoam container with mashed potatoes, stuffing (!), pasta, cheese quessadilas, plain rice, fried rice, and cheese??? For $6.15 a pound! And for all the carbolicious stuff I have crammed into my little container, I've still not once been over a pound! This place is heaven.

PS - they also serve individual sized buckets of cereal. In, like, every flavor. This is a great supplement to the cheerios I've been bringing from home. Today's cereal: Corn Pops. For reals.

Wow!

My first award! I have seen these on so many great blogs, and am honored that Michelle at Live, Laugh, Love, & Learn thought of me! I was already having a great weekend, and this is such a cherry for me!
Rules:
List 7 things that make you AWE-Some, and then pass the award along to 7 bloggers that you think are AWE-Some. Be sure to tag your recipients so they know that they're AWE-Some, and as always link back to the queen that sent you the award.
I am awesome because:
  1. I have the cutest blob ever, a mere 33 weeks from becoming the cutest baby ever
  2. I married the best man in the world. He never ceases to surprise me! On Friday, Mr. I don't believe in flowers presented me a bouquet of roses (in all the prettiest colors)!
  3. I have a fluffy, loving and hilarious puppy (who is about to turn 4...)
  4. I LOVE MY JOB! I always feel so fulfilled to be in my line of work.
  5. I really stepped up the gardens this year. And while I haven't been out to weed in way too long, the beds still look great.
  6. My family and friends are fantastic. I have had such an outpouring of love everyday - even before I was pregnant! The love has only grown since Hubby and I started spreading the news.
  7. I smile everyday. Even on bad days, I try to find something to smile about. Girly has been great smile inspiration since the day we brought her home. And the little blob just means that I'm beaming!

Seven Great Blogs:

I am sure that most (if not all) of these blogs have already received this award. How could that not have already?! But I'll just go ahead and award them again, since I just love them.

  1. JLT at The Ramblings of a Southern Belle, who is expecting after a long run. She's a great person, and deserves the best!
  2. Baby Mama at Living in the Moment, Trusting in the Future another expecting mommy. I can't wait to see how our pregnancies progress together!
  3. Blair at The Heir to Blair. This blog was my inspiration to create my own, after I followed quietly for a few months. I love her outlook on, well, everything!
  4. Lauren at Busy Bee Lauren is one more thing that keeps me smiling. Her posts are so much fun!
  5. Erin at Blue-eyed Bride, who is a new mom. Noticing a pattern here? I think we all like to folow blogs that parallel our own lives!
  6. Iva at Iva Messy added the first comment on my blog, and has been so supportive ever since.
  7. Nicole at My Teacups in Peony has lovely posts. I really look forward to her updates showing up on the dashboard.

Thanks again, Michelle! I am so honored to been in this club!

Everything I need to know in life

I learned from Bert & Ernie

http://www.sesamestreet.org/video_player?p_p_lifecycle=0&p_p_id=videoPlayer_WAR_sesameportlets4369&p_p_uid=0b82c482-154c-11dd-8ea8-a3d2ac25b65b&t=1244775258560&

I couldn't figure out how to have this video just play in the screen. Bert & Ernie didn't teach me how to do it, so we'll blame them.

Bert & Ernie did teach me not to eat cookies in bed. Because the crumbs might get in my pajamas and make me itchy. I have followed this advice religiously since the age of 3, never once eating cookies (or anything else!) in bed.

Until last night. I woke up so hungry I was about to cry! Luckily, I had a container of saltines right next to me. These were meant to be snacks for waking up... but sometimes you just need a bit to eat at 1:00 in the morning. I don't think I had enough dinner last night.

As a side note, I have been hearing for weeks now about how great sleeping is for the first 12 weeks. Well, I have slept like crap every night since before we found out. I'm still waiting for my wonderfully luxurious sleep! I'm pooped and this sucks!

First Appointment!

This was one of the best hours of my life. Or maybe 10 minutes, I'm not sure. The appointment was at 11:00. Lots of chatting and questions to start. The doctor is very nice, and there are four other doctors (all women!) in the practice. I'll have an appointment with each of them, as any one of them could be the doctor on-call for delivery on the big day. The end of the appointment was the blood drawing. Only four vials, and the nurse was a pro with the stick!

But the best part was the middle.

We have a blob! Our blob has a very strong heartbeat! Blob is measuring 6 weeks and 3 days, and is due on January 31, 2010. Our very own little blob! I'll scan the picture tomorrow when I'm back at work. For now, I am just too excited for words!

The Poll

Thanks for voting!

Almond Joy won in a landslide. Butttt.... I'm just not sure how well it rolls off the tongue. And to be honest, the thought of almonds currently makes me pukey.

I think perhaps hubby and I will just let a name come to us on its own. So far, we've been pretty consistent in calling it "Baby." And that's just fine with me :-)

Well, well. Some people can still surprise me!

You know how sometimes you have those friends that just are sucky friends? They never call or email. They never RETURN calls or emails. They don't even text. So despite your best efforts to keep up the friendship, you just feel like dumping them. It's not like you ever see or hear from them anyway, right? I have one of those friends.

To be fair, she just had her first baby, and I know she's busy. But she sucked as a friend looooong before the baby. And looooong before her wedding. She just doesn't make the reciprocal effort! And it's obnoxious! Well, wasn't I in for the surprise of the week.

I just had an email - a lovely email - from this very girl. It was such a heartfelt email, that's had me smiling all afternoon. It doesn't even matter what she was emailing about. The fact is that she did email me! That her email was full of support from one new mom to another soon-to-be mom made it even better. I am just filled with warmth knowing that I still have a friend out there.

Puppy Love

I have always known that Girly is the best dog on the planet. But somehow this feeling is doubly reinforced everytime Hubby and I welcome a guest dog into our house.

We had some friends and their dog over for the weekend. And that pooch is a nightmare. They have left to go back home, and while I miss my friends (we don't see them nearly enough), I am so happy Dogzilla is gone.

And even happier that Girly is mine.

An update! Lunch was fantastic. I needn't have worried. No fishy smell or anything! Phew! I have also spent a lot of time thinking about what to call the little being growing inside me. So many people go with "Bean," "Pea," "Peanut," and all of those other tiny things that seem rather cute. I was going to go with "Peanut," based on Girly's love of the snack. But now I'm thinking "Almond Joy" might be better. Not that I like the candy (maybe I do these days, everything is cRaZy in me!). But more that almonds have been such a tasty treat for me, and joy is just, well, a happy thing! Hubby and I have just been calling it Baby to each other, but I really feel that Baby deserves some sort of nickname. Right?

So. I have started a poll (to your right). Help me decide what to call my little apple blossom! (ooh, that's another good one...)

Pray for me...

I have to go to lunch at a seafood restaurant today. I have never liked seafood in any way, shape, or form. And it hasn't changed. I am fearing the sheer smell...

Otherwise, how excited am I that it's Friday!! Only a few more hours of work. And then I can go home. And plop on the couch. And do nothing. Well, I have to clean a bit, because...

We have friends visiting this weekend!!! One of my best friends from college and her husband and their dog. It's unfortunate that it's been raining so much - the dogs are going to get so filthy! But I don't even care, because I am so excited to see my friend. She only lives 3 hours away, but it's just far enough that we don't see each other very often. Oh, what a happy weekend!

But I don't even care, because I am so excited to see my friend. She only lives 3 hours away, but it's just far enough that we don't see each other very often. Oh, what a happy weekend!

I'm SO Honored!

Yesterday, I thought I was a lucky girl for getting some almonds (which now seem disgusting, by the way. As does everything else). Well, look how lucky I really am! Comments! On my blog! And new followers! Does it get any better?

Well, it could. Better would be if I could move without aching. Or fathom the idea of a cupcake. Or eat anything. I haven't puked yet - at all - in the few weeks that Peanut has been ravaging my insides. But somehow I think this is an anomaly.

Lucky Girl!

Hubby is being so thoughtful! I know this is because he's wanted a baby for so long. I always wanted babies too, just not right away. I've made Hubby wait - and now he is finally satisfied! So onto the thoughtful part.

We went out to eat over the weekend, and had a fabulous meal. By far the best part for me were the roasted almonds at our table. I don't usually like almonds in the least, but somehow those little nuts were the tastiest thing I could ever imagine. I got home from class last night (at 10:00 pm - yuck!), and what did Hubby have waiting for me? I whole container of almonds!!!

I tried roasting a few this morning, to bring into work for a little snack. I had to run upstairs for just one second - which was unfortunately long enough for the almonds to get a little too brown. I brought them anyway. I can't wait for a little almondy snack!
