Housekeeping

And I'm not talking about tidying the house. I'm talking about keeping things neat... in the nether regions... If you know what I mean.

This is an incredibly difficult task! People always tell you how hard it is to put on shoes, shave, paint your toes... they neglect to tell you that you will not be able to deforest yourself!

I knew things were getting a little scary down there, so I tried last night. With a complex system of mirrors. And still failed. How are you suppose to accomplish some of the most basic elements of hygiene if you can't see anything!

Glucose Update

I passed!

And now for the celebratory cupcake...

Opinions Needed!!!

I am signed up for a breastfeeding class this weekend. Hubby will be out of town, and unable to join me. When I called to sign up, the administrator said that I'd be fine in the class on my own. When I got the information about the class yesterday, however, it says to bring a partner.

And none of my friends (who I would feel comfy asking to a BREASTFEEDING class) are available.

Should I go by myself?

Should I reschedule?

Should I (gasp) ask my MIL to come with me??

I need opinions!!!

The Glucose Test

Apparently you don't get the results till the end of the week. Which means...

I'm continuing my sugar binge till the Dr. calls!!! At least four more days of M&M's!!!

And, for all of you afraid to drink the orange cool-aid - it's not that bad. I followed my Dr's advice and kept it in the fridge to get it as cold as possible. Then I drank it with a straw. Not only do straws make everything more fun, they also help to get things down quicker (a trick I learned with beer in college... fun times...)!

Also, I'm glad I set the timer on my phone to make sure I finished in the required 5 minutes. I was doing really well getting it down, then got distracted and all of a sudden had 45 seconds to drink the last third. I finished with 2 seconds to spare!

26 Weeks!

Total weight gain/loss: I haven't checked in a few days, but have an appointment tomorrow. We'll see!
Maternity clothes? :-)
Sleep: I slept all the way through the night on Thursday! It was fantastic. Otherwise, it's not great. There's never enough.
Best moment this week: Waking up Friday morning and realizing I hadn't even rolled over once during the night.
Movement: TONS! But she still won't let anyone feel her from the outside. As soon as a hand is placed on my tummy, she stops. It's like freeze tag or something.
Food cravings: Candy?
Gender: GIRL!!!
Labor signs: No thank you!
Belly button? Still shallow, but still an innie!
What I miss: Sleep.
What I am looking forward to: Naptime!
Weekly wisdom: Don't sit for too long - getting up to move around definitely helps with aches and pains.
Milestones: Glucose test tomorrow... I'm hoping to celebrate the results with a cupcake!

AND OMG!

OMG I just realized that I have less than 100 days to go in this pregnancy! Check out my ticker, people, it says "99 Days To Go" up there right now!!

Holy Cow! We are speeding along!

This, of course, assumes that our little friend Lulu doesn't decide to be fashionably late to her own birthday party...

Throwing Punches

My baby thinks I'm a punching bag. I've been getting quite the little show!

Baby Kicks

Sometimes the baby is so active, and the kicks and punches are so relentless, it actually feels like your insides are being tickled. You have mostly heard about jabs and punches from other pregnant women. So this ticklish pummeling you are now experiencing is quite surprising.

It might be a nice feeling if it weren't happening to your ribs (ouch!) and bladder (time to pee!)!

25 Weeks!

Total weight gain/loss: My scale says I'm holding steady at +21. My next appointment is next Monday, so we'll see. I have a knack for adding 5 pounds in that last week!
Maternity clothes? :-)
Sleep: I had to add a pillow to the party. And this pillow is coming with me wherever I go. Is it behind me right now at work? Yup.
Best moment this week: Hubby finally saw my tummy move last night. The child is evasive...
Movement: Tons. But I wish she would stop hitting my rib. I think she has dislocated it. It's very painful. Thus the extra pillow.
Food cravings: I don't want anything in particular lately... ice cream?
Gender: GIRL!!!
Labor signs: No thank you!
Belly button? Still shallow, but still an innie!
What I miss: Sleep. And sitting on a couch without pain. And moving without pain. I might have to call the Dr. about this rib thing...
What I am looking forward to: Pajamas at the end of every day.
Weekly wisdom: Stock up on pillows of various sizes and shapes. I'm sporting a bolster at the moment. And it has been wonderful. It even came with me to the bar yesterday to watch some football!
Milestones: I've hit the point of pregnancy discomfort. That has to mean something, right?

24 Weeks! (and 2 days)

Not a great picture...
This was taken at night, and I'm in a black dress. Focus on the roundy part above my hand,
and please ignore the fact that my back doesn't show up so I look like a whale!

Total weight gain/loss: Definitely up over 20, after the food fest of a weekend I just had! I'm avoiding the scale.
Maternity clothes? Oh yes. And Old Navy is having a huge sale! Tons of stuff for $15, with an additional 15% off if you use the code ONBDAY15!!!
Sleep: Sigh... I just can't get enough.
Best moment this week: Seeing soooo many friends this weekend. And getting in (I'm so bad) a glass of red wine.
Movement: She found my ribs. Ouch! But also still so wonderful...
Food cravings: Hamburgers
Gender: GIRL!!!
Labor signs: No thank you!
Belly button? I showed it to my friend and she was amused and horrified at how shallow it is!
What I miss: Red wine (on a regular basis). And also jackets that can button over my tummy.
What I am looking forward to: It's a 4-day week! Yay!
Weekly wisdom: Take naps. Always insist on taking breaks and sitting. And if someone offers you the nicer bed (even though you are a visitor), take it!
Milestones: At 24 weeks (so I hear) there is a chance Lulu could make it if anything were to happen. That said - Stay Put little girl!

Holy Cow!

I just saw my stomach move when Lulu kicked me! This girl is getting BIG. And strong!

This may be one of the weirdest, and most wonderful, experiences of my life.

I am the luckiest.

1) Because I have such great bloggy friends! Thanks for reading, and thanks for your comments!

2) Because I have the best sister-in-law in the world. She is throwing me a baby shower! She lives hundreds of miles away from me, and she is throwing me a shower! I just got the invitation the other day, and it's precious.

2a) anndddd... I went to add something to my registry this morning, and two things have already been purchased! I love showers for anyone. But I especially love showers for me :-)

3) Because my coworkers are also throwing me a baby shower! Complete with cupcakes.

4) Because hubby and I are headed North to see a bunch of friends this weekend. Nothing beats a weekend with friends (who just happen to make dinner reservations at yummy places anndddd promise cupcakes).

4a) Because the dress I ordered online should be at my doorstep when I get home from work this evening! I can't wait to try it on. And take it with me this weekend. So I can be a cute and stylin' mommy-to-be!

5) BECAUSE IT'S FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lil blog disclaimer

I was thinking in the shower this morning that perhaps I come off as snotty in this blog. Or (worse) whiney. I just wanted to send a quick little note to let everyone know that I don't mean to come off that way!

This is a place for me to share my thoughts. Since sometimes it can be difficult to share thoughts in the Real World. If anyone wants to read my (anonymous - I hope) thoughts, that's great! Otherwise, I'll keep blogging anyway.

This is a place for me to celebrate my pregnancy. And everything about it.

This is a place for me to voice my discomfort in pregnancy. While often, I still love every minute of it.

This is a place for me to describe my horror at some of the pregnancy unknowns and untolds... There are just so many things about pregnancy they never tell you! Why don't they tell you these things? (and even in my horror, I am still loving it).

Because that's the most important part, right? I love being pregnant! Ask me again in a few weeks when I can't fit at my desk anymore... but I think even then I will say that everything is completely and utterly worth it.

And hopefully, this blog will transition into a place where I can celebrate motherhood and my darling little girl. Voice my discomfort (and fears!) about being a mother. And describe my horror at some of the things they never tell you about being a mom or having a daughter.

And through all of that, I hope you will see that I love being a mom.

You will get stretch marks.

ON YOUR BOOBS.

You will be expecting the belly stretch marks. You've been warned about those for years! So you are pleasantly surprised when, halfway through, you haven't seen any yet. You know your time is coming, but this is nice.

And then you check out your (gargantuan) boobs. Lo and behold, there are the evil little marks you have been fearing. On your ladies. These flattering marks will make you feel very beautiful indeed.

When your husband finds you sobbing on the bathroom floor, don't even try to explain.

23 Weeks!

Total weight gain/loss: Doctor says 21 pounds (from last week), and perfectly normal
Maternity clothes? I love those Old Navy pants so much, I ordered more.
Sleep: Ok... beware the charlie horse when waking up!
Best moment this week: Not a great week for me... so definitely feeling Lulu being so active following the accident
Movement: A reassuring sign that Lulu was ok after the accident. Thank you bladder punches! (She, by the way, thinks my bladder is a trampoline and lots of fun to jump on. By far the strangest feeling ever).
Food cravings: Hamburgers, salad, cupcakes
Gender: GIRL!!!
Labor signs: No thank you!
Belly button? Definitely looking weird, but hasn't progressed further since last week.
What I miss: This week I wanted a beer...
What I am looking forward to: More pants arriving in the mail!
Weekly wisdom: Take your time. Hurrying will get you nowhere, fast.
Milestones: Lulu weighs over a pound!

These pants have been the only good part of my day

Not quite true, but almost.
These pants actually stay up! They are not around my ankles at all! The waist part is a little (awkwardly) tight around my tummy if I pull it all the way up. But they work great with the elastic folded over my waist. I'm just so excited for pants that work... I have a feeling I'll be ordering a few more pairs of these in the other colors soon!

So onto the other things about my day that have been good:
For one, Lulu and I are perfectly healthy following the car accident I caused last night. I totally rear-ended the car in front of me at a weird construction zone on-ramp. I was too close to the guy, thought he had moved (had not...) and drove right into him. Thankfully, he had been stopped and I was accelerating from being stopped, so it was a pretty low MPH accident. My Civic needs a new hood and bumper. His Jeep could use a little nail polish to touch up the silver streaks I left him as a reminder. And the guy could not have been nicer, and I mean that in a totally honest way.

Other things that are good: Hubby paid for the rental car option on our car insurance. I'm now pimping around town in a brand spanking new Dodge Charger. And feeling ridiculous. What an enormous car! I have driven smaller SUV's. And felt less ridiculous doing so.

Other things I am thankful for: I kept my previous cell phone from the last time I upgraded. This is helpful when I lose my cell phone hours after giving the number out to the guy I hit, the insurance company, the auto repair show, the rental car place... I feel very lost without my phone right now, and can't wait to get back home from work to reactivate the spare.

More things to make me happy: McDonald's. The best comfort food on Earth. I will add that I was only mildly ticked off when the person taking my order questioned my request for a milkshake AND a soda. What does she care if I am trying to raise my cholesterol and heart rate to unhealthy heights? Sky's the limit!

Things I am actually, really and truly happy about? I have wonderful coworkers who announced to me today that they are planning a baby shower for me in November. It was just the sort of thing I needed to hear on such a crappy day.

And yes, I am very blessed and lucky to be safe and healthy after everything. Lulu is using my bladder as a trampoline right now, and it's the best feeling in the world. And with that, I'm off to use the bathroom.
